Rounders-player reverses the summit [8]
BACKSTOP
I still can't see how that was worked out. What's the summit bit?

Reverses - Backs

Summit - Top

Main element or fastener [6]
- T - P - R

You sure the last letter is R?
If it was an E...STAPLE would fit.
Main element - Staple
Fastener - Staple.

"The Percussion section of the orchestra consists of all the instruments that you hit or shake to make a sound. There is a huge number of different instruments including drums, bells, gongs and even xylophones, earning it the title 'The Kitchen Sink Department', because everything except the kitchen sink is included."

Looking good, thanks everyone. As Jack says, some of them are pretty obvious when you see the answers.

So, just two remaining:-

Main element or fastener [6]
- T - P - R
Now with an extra letter..

Kitchen with supersonic cook-up [10]
- E - C - S - I - N
I have decided that the answer to the second clue is "PERCUSSION".
Purely because it's an anagram of "supersonic", and also fits your letters. I have no idea what it has to do with kitchens, though.

Yes! Kitchens have kettles in them, and a kettle drum is a percussion instrument!
I too thought percussion, but the clue can't be that tenuous, can it?

Rounders-player reverses the summit [8]
BACKSTOP
I still can't see how that was worked out. What's the summit bit?

What a state to be in if I jingle! [4]
FIJI
Fiji fits, but is it a state? Well, of course it's a STATE! and it'll stay like that until Mrs Fiji comes back and tidies up!

Yes, and supersonic refers to sound. We're good us!

Cheers Peepsie, I never knew that.  Ahh, Fiji - I was thinking of states like Kentucky or Montana. And 'BACKS TOP' - simple really, when you know...

Carrying the coffin, he surrounds the listeners [6]
I put in BEARER - and the fastener clue goes down to connect with the last R here. But I just realised it should be HEARSE. Which means Calvin's STAPLE fits.

Woo Hoo..finished.  Thanks everyone - if I win, I'll send you all a share of the cash.

Normal service can now resume. Sorry for boring everone  ;)

Oh, and that kitchen link to percussion is tenuous at best. I hate cryptic crosswords.

The 'kitchen sink' thing is definitely iffy, no way is that legit clue.

That's why I'm not taking part in this.

Aren't cryptic clues meant to be iffy? Anyway, the sink link came in ages after the clue.

But, do I have a clue, one wonders?  ;)
