Sponsored Bike Ride
« on: April 17, 2010, 04:02:45 PM »
I'm taking part in a round-the-world sponsored cycle ride tomorrow.

Obviously I'm not doing all of it - just the section between Madrid and Buenos Aries, (most of which is underwater).

I'd quite like some donations, but have to work out how to set up one of these charity page things, like "Just Giving".

I'll let you know once I've set it up.

I look forward to contributing, Nige.
Do you have a snorkel for the tricky Buenos Aires stretch?

I was planning on holding my breath, and popping my head above water every now and again to breathe.

If I have a hangover in the morning, or oversleep, it might not happen of course.

Are you in Madrid already?

I'm hoping to fly out from Glasgow airport in the morning. I hope they'll allow my bike on board.

Practise your crash position.

Damn, I overslept and missed the ferry. Maybe just as well - I'd got a flat tyre.

Why don't you just ride around the island for the distance.  That would keep you in circulation for a few weeks.

That bike ride would have been a great achievement if you had actually woken up in time. Still, you nearly did it, and that must be a great comfort to you in your dotage.

How did you know my house was called "Dotage"? Spooky.

I wanted to do the gig, but the flat tyre, plus me being hungover, and also not being able to swim, put the knackers on it all. I had hoped to coin a few bob.

You're an inspiration, Nige. Because of reading this thread, thousands of marooned British tourists in France have set off across the Channel on bikes.

I've just read that the government's sending the Royal Navy over to get them back instead.

They used to call it 'press-ganging'.
