Actually, that last one is interesting, in that it was almost universally acclaimed as the worst caption challenge in the (then) 15-week history of the competition, particularly in it's awkward phraseology ("I think that's how it's always been." would have sat better). If I may enjoy a little self-indulgence, I actually beat Roger that week, and won the competition for the first time with the following...

The dog won it!
Seriously, yours was a really clever gag for---as you say---a tricky caption that we all found difficult.

Why bring ME into this?
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

Why indeed. So we shan't.

Instead, here's another of Roger's cartoons, brilliantly utilising the caption I set having won the previous week's competition (did I mention that?)...

Sadly, for Roger, it wasn't quite brilliant enough to beat this one, the eventual winner... for the second week running... (and not a weeing dog in sight!)...

Love it, Tarks.  You must have spent ages with the colouring pencils on this one.

This was utterly brilliant, Tarks, and, if my memory serves me well, I voted it my number one.
(By the way, I don't think this whole thing has been explained to you all. These cartoons are from a friendly competition on a professional cartoonists' website. A caption is given and we have to come up with a cartoon to fit it). There are no prizes---it's all for fun.
It's annoyingly addictive, even for a non-artist like me.

Moving not-so-swiftly on.

This one earned Roger his first silver medal, being pipped for the gold by just one vote (no, not by me)...

And just the following week, Roger went one better and bagged the gold medal with this offering...

YAY!
