Changing your avatar
« on: July 24, 2010, 02:47:50 PM »
I was trying to change my avatar but the picture from my file remains large instead of automatically converting to avatar size here.   Do I need to shrink the original picture to avatar size first?

I've kept my avatar small as I did not know whether the forum reduced its size.  It's irrelevant anyway when Mince or his cronies fiddle about with other's avatars.

Thank you, Bill. I tried that. It still seems too large though.

Nice avatar.  The size is not too large.  I believe the important bit is not to make them too small or too large (especially as it looks odd when one only posts a single line of text - then there is a lot of empty space - like in my head at times)

Like what I just did. If I made it smaller it just looked like some weird hand attached to my head.

Are you cropping the picture (i.e. cutting the edges off) or reducing the pixel count (which shrinks the picture but keeps it in proportion - including errant hands)?

It's not cropped. I just used the auto-size change to "small". "Tiny" looked ridiculous. As long as it is not too big for the forum, it's okay with me.

Thanks for your help!
