A fun idea for Roger
« on: January 30, 2011, 04:22:40 PM »
I have been spending hours searching for just the right short season heritage tomato seeds and came upon this wonderful sounding lettus:

Grandpa Admire: 1860's) (60 days) . Named for a Civil War veteran, George Admire. His 90-year old granddaughter gave his lettuce seed to Seed Savers Exchange in 1977. Large, bronze-tinged leaves stay tender, even in extreme hot weather. Slow to bolt.

Roger, you could grow a Civil War heritage seed garden!

Ah, the seeds of war.
I'll use this opportunity to say I might not be around too much in thr next few days---more computer trouble so I'm on my wife's at the moment. If my laptop has completely conked out, a new one is a possibilty. And you know how long it takes me to sort one of those out....

You don't sound as excited about the idea as I thought you'd be Roger.

Don't fret, Diane.  It's not easy to think about planting large areas of the estate at the same time as which new computer thingy to get.....

My tomato seeds came in the mail if anybody cares.

I bought 7 short season heritage kinds (some were even grown through the Canadian Gene bank) -  the most exciting variety being called "The Bloody Butcher". Got seeds, got jiffy pots and got itchy green thumbs.

You can get lotions and tablets for those symptoms.  Just don't scratch!
