Grammar problem
« on: May 30, 2007, 10:47:15 PM »
I'm writing a strip and the characters are being ribald. Don't ask me why I chose that word, it's a long story.

Another character comes in and says, "right, enough of this ribaldness!!" Is that the right word?

You could say "Enough of this joking around". Not sure what the proper word should be. Ribalding perhaps.

Ribaldry.

Don't mention it!
I apologise, in advance.

No, it's not ribaldry.  >:(

Unless someone with a real sense of grammar confirms it, that is. ;)

Did I hear a call for someone with a real sense of grammar?  3 posts in one....

1. Subject guaranteed to bore anyone
2. Stop rude email exhorting me to post
3. Ribaldry is the English usage of the noun...our 'English'-speaking cousins across the Atlantic use ribald for both noun and adjective

boring enough? 8)

"Stop all this Ribena".

That's the one.  ;D

I used to love being involved in all kinds of Ribena.

It's also good with apple crumble, rhubarb pie, custard...
I apologise, in advance.

I like sponge bases also, Elizabeth. Custard does tend to make them rather limp, which I don't like. I'm no flim-flan man!

Plum duff and spotted dick...puddings have great comic potential.
I apologise, in advance.

I sense a "Q.I." moment. I say the word "tart" and flashing lights go off.
