Many moons ago I had a Welsh partner who thought I might like to learn to speak the language. As we stayed in Scotland (Kettlebridge to be exact) and she could speak English, as could her parents I couldn't quite understand the logic?

However, I can still say 'croeso', 'hwyl', 'os gwelwch yn dda' & 'diolch'! (hello, goodbye, please & thank you). Unfortunately I didn't progress to the more important phrases, such as 'a pint of beer please' and 'another pint of beer please' before we decided to go our seperate ways.

Having used several Welsh to English translators, I find Google Translation to appear to make the most sense. But then again, who knows what is actually being said...

I agree. I also go along with the theory that the Welsh language was invented after all the rest and they had to use up all the unused 'l', 'f' and 'y's.
(I'll steal a tag line and 'apologise in advance' if any Welsh speakers read this and are offended at my joke)
