I realize that I may be driven off this board for bringing this up, but then again, you still have Mince and he brings up topics about "poo," so here goes:

I have been reading the "Hamish MacBeth" series and love it.  I'm sure it must be full of stereotypes, but it's such a cozy read.

What does the Scottish contingent here make of the series?  I never watched the television program because it look dreary.  I understand that it really didn't have much to do with the books anyway.

I enjoyed the TV series (haven't read the books) because it used a lot of well known faces from Scottish theatre.  It was what we call "couthy."
i.e. ain't going to win any Oscars and predictable plots but perfect for the Sunday evenings when it aired.

The books are easy reads and I enjoy the descriptions of the Highlands. I got hooked on them when I finished reading the Agatha Raisin mysteries by M.C. Beaton.  I especially liked the lengths Hamish went to protecting his pet wild cat after the cat killed a serial killer.

Robert Carlyle went to my school. Not at the same time, he's a few years younger than me, but he was born in Maryhill and attended North Kelvinside Secondary. He no doubt attended Shakespeare Primary School too, where I also was.

Ridley Scott was also at my school (a different one)
