David Bowie is back on top of the album charts with his new album The Next Day.  8)

Having bought the CD and had it on repeat since, I doff my cap in his general direction.....Fantastic.

Been a big fan since the 70's but, like a feckin eejit, never went to see him.

Big rumours he may do 1 poss 2 gigs. With the Rolling Stones top price ticket for their gig at the O2
last year coming in at £950.......what price Bowie?  :o

"Space Oddity" remains one of the greatest pop songs ever written. (At my age, I've stopped bothering to add "in my opinion"---I'm right about everything). What's that? You want to know what THE greatest pop song of all time is? No problem. It's "River Deep, Mountain High".

£950 for a Bowie ticket? Is he throwing a night with Iman in too? Ok, he's good, but £950? Do you know how many doughnuts that would buy?  I went to see Fleetwood Mac a couple of years ago and remember the slight disappointment after it due to the anticipation outweighing the reality, and they only cost £70.

Heroes beats Space Oddity, by the way, and THE greatest pop song of all time is The Buggles, "Video Killed the Radio Star".  ;D

Egg, if you have liked him for 40 years that would only work out to 23.75GBP per year or 1.98 GBP per month or around 50p per week.

If you had thought about this in the 1970s and saved up 50p a week, your ticket would be paid for now.

Let this be a lesson to you youngsters.

I saw Bowie at Maine Road, Manchester in the 80s, the Glass Spider tour 1987, supported by Alison Moyet and Terence Trent D'Arby. Peter Frampton on lead guitar. Good but not great gig. Saw the Stones there too, absolute sh*te, and I'm a Stones fan.

Best incident of the day was when Trent D'Arby narrowly avoided a 2 litre plastic bottle of water thrown from the crowd. He turned to the band, waved his arm once and the band stopped on a dime. Total silence. He said "where the f*ck is security"? The offender was grabbed, frogmarched out through the mosh pit to a side gate, pelted by crap all the way, some people even tried to kick him.

You just don't get that sort of behaviour at a Neil Diamond concert  ;)

I saw Bowie in the 70s - I think it was at Leicester De Montfort Hall. He was brilliant.

I was only in Leicester for a year, but I also managed to see Roxy Music twice - once at the Uni, and then later that year at the De Montfort Hall again.

I agree that Space Oddity is a classic, but I also like Starman - (one of my karaoke numbers  8) ). The Ziggy Stardust album is what alerted many people to Bowie's talents. I remember buying that, and then going back to discover earlier gems such as Hunky Dory, and a couple of LPs that preceded that - Man Who Sold the World, being one.

And THAT title track in another Bowie classic.

Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

That's the problem, I still want to see him at his best, Ziggy, Aladdin Sane, Pin Ups etc. Heard from
lots of other people that the Glass Spider tour was dire!

I'll wait to see if, when, where and how much!  :-\

Thank you Diane, I haven't been called a youngster for 30 years! ;)

Hate to tell you Egg but I wasn’t saying you were young, but letting youngsters know, who may be reading this forum, that if they like someone like Justin Bieber now they could save up 50p a week and watch him in concert when he makes his comeback tour at age 70.
