I read...
« on: April 15, 2013, 09:20:27 PM »
...an article the other day on the bbc news site, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22089936, about the "frank" approach of Israelis, the article itself was mainly fluff but it reminded me of an old friend, and what he said on the subject when we discussed it a long time ago.  He said [from memory]:

"The Jews tried being polite, but we kept killing them anyway, so now they're trying it our way, the reason a lot of people don't like it is because we're not used to victims shooting back"

Not the most cheerful of subjects I admit, but it was either this or conjecture on the value of pile cream...

Really? Those were the two topic starters you pulled out of the hat today?

A) Funnily enough, I read today that Israel has broken more U.N. resolutions than any other country in the world.
B) Thankfully, I don't need to use pile cream but I believe it's very soothing.

Wasn't pile cream the forerunner of Botox!  <-

Is it just me, I read this line and was desperate to hear it put to music.   Not to be pedantic but I didn't say I needed to use pile cream, but when you've finished your book, you don't "do" television and your download quota from "bigger is better" runs out, it's just an option.

Is that the same UN that in 2012 adopted 22 country specific resolutions on Israel?   Or was it the other UN that passed resolution 1441 on Iraq's "Weapons of Mass Destruction" in 2002?

Either way, if they included an offer of free pile cream there'd be a lot more compliance going on, and yes there could be a euphemism in there somewhere.

No. It's just where it's applied between.

I'm not sure that these boards are the place for a knock-down drag out fight on Israel's merits. I do enjoy the atmosphere here, and don't want to spoil it. I'm sure we all have differing opinions.
For my own part, I'm a big fan of Doctor Norman Finkelstein. He pretty much says it for me. I won't provide a link, it's all there on You Tube for those who are interested to go look.

Who's fighting!?   I wrote almost as many words on pile cream as I did about Israel.   Can we have a fight about pile cream?   I stopped posting last time because I was told I was upsetting people by posting too often, I wander back and now I'm fighting?   Seriously?

I guess I should apologise, it's been a bad time.   My wife ran off with my best friend, I still miss him; my cousin was seriously injured when a Segway hit him on the head whilst he was out walking along the beach; my friend dck lost an i in a bizarre scrabble accident; Elvis has left the chip shop and my friend Spear went to Vegas and lost a mint.  :'(

Well, never hold a grudge, as my old friend Simon Dee used to say.   Talking of tablets, how may uses can one greedy word have?   First it was how G-d passed on messages, then we started swallowing them to feel better [or worse depending on your inclination], then in Scotland they've turned it into a kind of fudge [only ten times better] and now it's competing with the "headache" in terms of matrimonial "affection" [or lack of, to be more precise].
