Two things...
« on: May 31, 2015, 10:54:49 PM »
...I learnt today.   Today I got to make my wife redundant, and not in the avatar sense but in the sense of "clear your desk, you're leaving", all part of the rich tapestry that is the company I work for, quietly imploding, and yes I am next on the list, although I may need a mirror so I can look myself in the eye as I fire myself.   The two things I learnt?   One, that my wife knows how to stay calm in a crisis, two, she owns a machete...I didn't even know we had jungles.

I read on Facebook somebody wondering why there are so many lover's initials carved in trees - they were not wondering why so many couples go for walks in the woods but why so many of them carry knives.

Sorry to read that your wife lost her job and you may be next  :(  It is sure not easy to find jobs I have found.

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Today I got to make my wife redundant . . . I may need a mirror so I can look myself in the eye as I fire myself.

Do you own the company or are you just the person who fires everyone?

A delightful image, young couples wandering the woods, knives in hand  ;D   Thanks for the thoughts Diane, I have followed your efforts, particularly in the photography area given that's a passion of mine also.   Not too concerned just yet, if nothing else I know life is full of surprises, good and bad, so I'll take my lumps and look forward to better days.

Do you own the company or are you just the person who fires everyone?

I work for a larger group, I just run the local office here, which consisted of myself and my wife, who worked part time, only one left to fire is me so I may seize the opportunity to experiment with a more radical or humourist approach:

The naval officer approached the Chief Petty Officer and said "We just got word that Seaman Jenkins's mother just died, try and break the news to him as best you can".   So the CPO called a squad parade, which included Seaman Jenkins; the CPO then ordered "All those with a Mother take two paces forward...where do you think you're going Jenkins!?"

Fire yourself for a stupid reason and then claim unfair dismissal.

Personally, I would get the union man involved.

What...you fired him too?

 ;D

Seriously though, fingers crossed for your imminent better times, Red.

Thanks Sandy, not too concerned and that's without the drugs, my best guess is I am good for 2015; 2016 is another matter however, but I have time to get organised, I have [albeit at a very early stage] the possibility of a joint business venture with a good friend, haven't done all the research yet, so early days, plus a couple of other possibilities.   If all else fails I will stand in the 2016 local elections, if you can't beat them...

Sounds interesting, Red.

I'm still very much in the learning curve of the new job, but fingers crossed it's looking as interesting as what I thought it would. I have been fortunate enough to pass year 3 at Uni, (Sandy Buttcheeks B.Eng, at your service), so it's now time to look at joining professional bodies...if you know what I mean!  ;)

Don't know about the local elections, mind you. If you're actually looking to do some work, wouldn't success defeat the purpose?  ;D
