It don't get much better...
« on: March 30, 2016, 03:17:48 PM »
...just booked tickets to see this chap, we've discussed him previously in a music thread, and the bonus is that I get to visit one of my favourite places, and not just because it's in the Isle of Man.   The Gaiety Theatre, built in 1899 and opening in 1900, it underwent a complete refurbishment to restore it to it's former glory in time for its own centenary in 2000.   It's exterior facade is simply awesome, and matched by in interior that takes hours to properly explore.   To finish off the evening a candlelit Italian feast is planned, that bit's a surprise for my wife, so this could all yet end in tears...

That is so lovely - glad that it was restored.
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Stage is a bit too thin, in my opinion.

They're going to struggle with Snow White and the Seven dwarfs.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better it did.   My wife and I are on our "second  time around".   In my case this  means my first wife figured out I was worse than useless, then I got lucky and found another woman who knew the same thing but liked me anyway.   We brought three kids with us into the melting pot, but had no children together.  This never came up in conversation but I suspect that's because we figured three was enough, thank you very much.  I did occasionally wonder "what if" and how "what if" would have turned out, but I need concern myself no longer.

According to the dream I had last night, or more accurately just now, we had a daughter, and not just any old daughter.  We had a daughter capable of rescuing her mother and I from a bunch of Serbian terrorists [I recognised the accent].   It's true I also went into James Bond mode, and was doing quite well for a while, having been seperated from my wife and newly discovered daughter, essentially I was kicking ass and taking names.   I was running away from an explosion when it all went a bit pear shaped.   In true Bond fashion I spied a nasty terrorist racing towards the explosion on a bicycle [cunning chaps these Serbians], so I dodged into a doorway.   The plan was simple, leap out at the exact moment, stiff arm the baddie and steal his ride to safety.   So I did, leap out that is, unfortunately my dream Serbian terrorists turned out to be a lot smarter than the movie equivalent, all I got was an unmanned bicycle in the groin.

It was looking fairly desperate, said bad guy was standing several yards away, and apparently had found the time to call for assistance, which resulted in a semi-circle of villainous wretches who oddly all looked like Donald Trump.  But it was okay, behind them I could see my newly discovered wonder child, running towards them with a steely determination in her eyes, which is when I woke up.

So I need wonder no longer, we had a daughter, cool and smart enough to rescue her mum once, and hopefully her dad twice, it really don't get much better.

Have you thought about selling your dreams to Hollywood?

I dreamt I was herding sloths. What kind of cheese do you have for supper, Red?

I dreamt I was herding sloths.

A plant-based diet gives you better dreams. :)

;D ;D   I realised it was probably the cheese [mature cheddar] as I was writing it, but I'd hoped to avoid a diatribe from Roger about cheese if I mentioned it, nice one Sherlock!   Herding sloths sounds fun, at least more fun than a bike in the...

Have you thought about selling your dreams to Hollywood?

I have quite honestly thought of selling everything I have to Hollywood, including various medical conditions, but alas it seems the fates have decreed a more distant relationship.   Their loss.

Well, that's your problem right there: next time, do it dishonestly.

That reminds me of an old Navy joke.   The Admirals daughter is set on marrying a sailor, he [the Admiral] disapproves but loves his daughter, so reluctantly gives his blessing but warns her

"If he ever tells you he 'wants to try it the other way' just say no"   Marital bliss follows for several months, and the question is never raised, and she grows curious, so she asks her husband

"Why haven't you asked me to 'try it the other way', don't you want to?"

"What!" Jolly Jack responds wildly "And risk having kids!!"

In case anyone was wondering, Colin Hay was brilliant, just brilliant.
