Good innings, as they say, Rob!

I won't pretend I loved everything he had a hand in writing, but in and of its day, Dad's Army was a timeless classic that I can (and occasionally do) still enjoy to to this day. The writing was wonderful, and the characters beautifully conceived, but perhaps the true genius was in the casting. They struck gold with each and every one. I'm sure Jimmy Perry will have played his part in that, and it all gelled superbly well. I enjoyed much of Are You Being Served? (although I think the sequels were a mistake), and most of 'Allo, 'Allo!, but Dad's Army was such a tough act to follow, and none of them quite matched up to it.

But a remarkable output, and the man brought laughter to millions of people over the decades. Rest in peace, Jimmy Perry!
I apologise, in advance.

I have always loved Dad's Army and was sad to see that Jimmy Perry passed away.

We watched "We're Doomed" which was a story about the making of Dad's Army. Jimmy had written the show so that he could have the acting part of Walker. He was very upset when he looked over for the part, but I think he came to terms with it in the end.
