Halloween is a bit stressful this year. My daughter wants a Princess Zelda costume, not any old costume but a specific costume to one video game. Sure, we could have bought it on eBay months ago for big bucks, but I said surely we can make that ourselves with bits of old things laying around the house - we were gluing and sewing and painting things last night. (the white fabric paint dried clear!). The kitchen looks like a bomb hit it and we still don't have a white long skirt.

I am trying to convince her that being wrapped in toilet paper as a Mummy is the way to go.

Is it just easier to ban her from playing the video game?

My daughter made the armour and headpiece with thick craft paper that you can mould - you cut it out, soak it and then tie it around a can or something until it is dry and it holds its shape. There was a lot of hot glue and gold spray paint involved.

If the Beau Peep panto is going to incorporate ancient Roman soldiers - we can now help with that.

Turned out much better than we both had expected.

Thank you. The purple top/tunic was a $6 dress found in a second hand shop that I drastically cut down and used also for the tabard hanging panel. The white skirt was made with some very old fabric that had been stored away for years - both things were made without a pattern.

The jewelry was also second hand store finds and dollar store "precious plastic gems" were glued to them. The armour and headdress she found templates for on the internet they were fiddly and took her a bit of time to cut out. Then the ridge work on them is traced on wax paper first with hot glue and later glued to the form (after it has bent and dried) then the whole thing is spray painted. So it is an interpretation of the outfit, more things could have been done but that was where we stopped.

So yes a mix of home made and second hand finds.

Sorry don't know, but you can pick it up at the dollar stores. It is 1/2 cm thick and has a paper layer on both sides and a foam layer in the middle if that helps. It doesn't say you can mould it on the paper, my niece told us how to do it because they have been making fancy costumes for years for their boys such as robo-cop etc.

It IS just called "Foam Board" ours was Elmers brand (the glue people) - this would be perfect for storm troupers.
