"Some are born great...
« on: September 20, 2017, 07:52:21 PM »
Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal...

Abraham Lincoln

First of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance...

Franklin D Roosevelt

“I will, in the name of humanity, which is outraged, in the name of liberty, which is fettered, in the name of the Constitution and the Bible, which are disregarded and trampled upon, dare to call in question and to denounce, with all the emphasis I can command, everything that serves to perpetuate slavery...

Frederick Douglas

"If [the US] is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea..."

Donald Trump

...some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em"   And, as an addendum to Mr Shakespeare, "Some just seem to defecate every time they open their mouths"

The man is beyond satire. A horrific combination of the ludicrous and the terrifying.

Tarks, you are quite brilliant, with splashes of pure genius...now bugger off, you're making me look bad ["Too late" cried his occasionally unkind but very honest wife].  "That's what you get for eating your crayons when you were a kid" she added, somewhat unnecessarily...[We were poor, I was hungry]..."Hardly explains the crayon the hospital had to remove from your nose though, does it?"

Steve Bright is among the greatest cartoonists around. The fact that we have been friends for almost 40 years is not an influencing factor. He annoys the hell out of me with the ease he creates his masterpieces. I hate him.

Meh - he only dislikes you a bit, Mincey. Don't let it go to your head.

Red, your opening post was quite brilliant in itself, and highlighted beautifully the gulf in tact, intelligence, empathy, decency, but perhaps above all, class, between the current POTUS and his three distant predecessors, whose eloquence and grace shone through those quotes in sharp contrast to the orange turd's puerile macho posturing.
I apologise, in advance.

I should add that this morning I had coffee with Roger at Kettle Towers, and we both agreed that perhaps the most salient effect of the Trump Presidency is that we'd even have George W. Bush back in his place. 'Nuff said!
I apologise, in advance.

Scarily true, even Reagan seems almost lucid in comparison...

My wallet's gone!

Relax, you probably just misplaced it the last time you nearly opened it, try retracing your steps from that day, although not everyone can remember that much detail from 2006...

I'm sorry to tell you but these jokes about my parsimony are so wide of the mark that they miss the target altogether. I am---and always have been---stupid with money. Ask my wife, kids or sister. I'm a financial idiot.

I think 'financial' is superfluous.
