Can I just say that...

I don't mind pops or rants.

Fat ladies can sing whenever they feel like.

Serious debate or tomfoolery are both welcome.

Everyone's a winner.

Go forth and have fun...  ;)

I will be the first to admit that I can sometimes unknowingly (and occasionally recklessly) tip over from playfully annoying people to just plain annoying people, from being a subtle wit to a tactless tit, from winding people up to winding up irritable. (Yes, I know, that final parallel structure didn't quite work as well as the others, but I have been driving for the past two and a half hours, and one of my students made a sing-along rhyme about me in class and now the others are singing it as well, and the injunction I obtained against Michelle Pfeiffer is not being enforced by the police.) I also think that Roger's comment about my rendering his own board incomprehensible to him needs at least some action taking. (I did think about setting up another forum where we could explain everything to him. I don't know what everyone else thinks.) Anyway, thank you all for your kind words. (That song my student made up has a word that rhymes with "git". Someone should sort them out, and I know it should be me, but I just laughed along with it, but inside I was hurting, really hurting, just like it does when they keep saying "is it?" instead of the correct question tag.) I agree with Tarquin about this board having a bunch of stunningly funny members. (I was joking about the extra forum for Roger. Explaining everything to him would just take too long.) I shall try my best to restrain myself from posting without a point. (It's not the first time those three girls have ganged up on me either. I told them to shut up once but they just laughed, and then one of them punched me. I don't mess with her because she's been known to burn people's houses down.) I hope this ... (Then there was the time I told them that joke from Beau Peep, the one where the nomad says "I wonder if I could punch him before his men got me.", and they didn't laugh but just watched me laugh and laugh until humiliation swallowed my laughter, and I looked away and sadly counted the indifferent tumbleweeds blowing past.) But back to the usual insanity of this board. (I think it was the delivery that was lacking, not the Beau Peep strip, though the lack of visuals may have contributed. And there were seven in total.) Yes, back to the insanity. (Tumbleweeds, I mean.)

Good points, Tom.
Colin, I agree things changed rather dramatically when Mince moved in but he addressed some technical problems that The Peepmaster simply didn't have time to work on. Neither of these guys have been paid a penny by me and have put in many, many hours to keep this site going. It's now been seven years since Nigel (The Peepmaster) Sutherland created beaupeep.com and, through his hard work and dedication (bless him), we've ended up with a site which a nice little band has grown to love. In his own right, The Peepmaster is a busy, successful cartoonist so his labours here were way beyond the call of duty. Mince stepped in and offered to help/streamline/improve the site and, like Nigel, has devoted huge chunks of his time to doing just that. As is well known, I am barely capable of opening a laptop so this site would not have existed---or continued to exist---without their sterling efforts. I am hugely grateful to both of them.
However, I do agree that Mince is an annoying git.

I did more than Mince! He just started a new forum, and then began bossing me about a bit.

Anyway, I can be annoying too.

It is, however, important to me that this board remains a Beau Peep board and does not become a "Mince annoys everyone" board.

Was it extending the beard on your avatar that finally pushed you over the edge?

Hi, it's Malc here, contributing from Heaton Mersey library, where the internet is a hundred times faster than my sister-in-law's dial-up.
I don't see the problem re Mince. Can't remember a post where he has rubbed me up the wrong way or said anything particularly vile.

Fair enough.

Well, actually, no - it isn't fair enough. Colin, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, of course, and I'm sorry you feel the way you do. You can't please all of the people all of the time.

Here's my opinion for what it's worth, and I'm really narked you've pushed me to say nice things about Mincey - it doesn't come naturally. I don't know what this forum was like pre-Mince, other than a very brief period way back when I looked in for a spell. I enjoyed it then, but for whatever reason, I didn't stick with it (no reflection on the board - I've been through some strange times in recent years). I can't recall the exact reason why I dipped my toe in the Beau Peep forum waters again (probably something Peepsie alerted me to on another forum - he does occasionally evangelise for this board), but what I found was a cool, select and cosy bunch of people, and some very sharp wit....and I've been here ever since (this may or may not be a part of your problem, of course).

Mince works very hard at being annoying, and often keeps this board ticking over during dry spells. He also does it (in my opinion...and his) with great style. I enjoy that - others seem to enjoy that, and new people coming on board since I did appear to enjoy it also. Yes, there have been some manic posts, and some very esoteric threads, mostly in the Outpourings forum, where they belong, but it's certainly not compulsory to join in, nor ever held against anyone who doesn't.

And in tandem with the foolishness, there are two excellent other forums concentrating on Beau Peep issues as well as Horace issues. Of course, they also occasionally spill over into madness, but when you have a forum dedicated to comic strip genius, you can hardly expect (or want, surely?) everything to be po-faced and serious, can you? And if it were, how many would stick around?

Everyone has their own levels of tolerance and humour, and that's as it should be. And everyone who contributes to this board regularly has their own character. I love that about this place. I wouldn't want to lose anyone from here, not you, Colin, nor Mince.

Since you've singled him out in your self-confessed rant, allow me to do the same. This board, in my opinion, would be far poorer without his wit, and....well, let's leave it at wit, shall we?

Counter-rant over.  :-*

Fair enough  ;D

Actually, that was me being nice.  ???

But so that there are no misunderstandings, I have not had nor do I have anything against Colin, who has made me laugh many times on this board (including his copying me above). I am glad everyone's reply to Colin's rant was balanced and kept him in mind, and I am glad he is still posting with his usual sense of humour.

And no jokes about "Mince loves Co-lin".
