As some of you may know, I have a tendency to foist my views on entertainment onto others, sometimes with positive results, i.e. "thanks Malc, I haven't seen XXXX for twenty years, that brings back memories" or "Jeez, I never saw one that wide before, is he in a relationship?" that sort of thing.

Some of you may know of Andy Kaufman, I may even have mentioned him before and forgotten, but I recently typed the name into You Tube just to enjoy his stuff yet again, he was a true original. Many modern comics are influenced by him without realising it.
He was played by Jim Carrey in the movie Man In The Moon.

Avoid the Johnny Cash appearance. As you might suspect it was staged and phoney.

I mentioned Steve Martin, who is now known as a comedy actor and presenter of the Oscars, Golden Globes, etc.
However, he started out as a comedy magic act, banjo player and sometime prop comic.
Type in "Steve Martin Flydini" and you'll see one of his best routines.

Some of Kaufman's routines were weird to the extreme. Didn't he go through a spell of doing stand-up comedy without...er...comedy? He could be very, very funny but it was clear to see he had a lot of problems.
The first couple of Steve Martin films I saw were The Jerk and The Man With Two Brains and I though they were brilliant. I've cooled on him since he moved into the "rom-com" stuff.

I pretty much understood Kaufman as soon as I saw him, but I was older then, I never saw him doing his own stuff when I was younger.
 (I saw him as Latka in "Taxi", but that was scripted by others)
He does a bongo-playing routine on You Tube that doesn't work, and I think it's pretty obvious he was on something.

I hated his romping comas as well.
