The idea is that these are pupils in a Scottish country dance group. They're rehearsing "Marie's Wedding". Does that come across?

Unless you know the words, it may seem a little obscure to some readers. (It takes me back to my school days...)

Even with your explanation I don't understand it.

Quite clearly, he's gay, while she's an exhibitionist. You just know she isn't wearing underpants.

I like the joke a lot but I'm guessing the number of people who know the lyrics of "Marie's Wedding" is pretty limited.
(Okay, my 18 year-old son and two of his pals are in at the moment so I asked their opinion. They remembered singing the song in primary school and also liked the cartoon but I still think its appeal is limited almost entirely to Scotland.)
It's funny, though.

It may work better if the dancers were in plaid.

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

This is very valuable feedback. I had thought a Scot/Brit audience would have cottoned on to this one, but it seems I was right to be wary.
I posted this on a US site and whilst the gag went down well visually, they certainly didn't get the punchline.
Sometimes the colonials hold onto the vestiges of the Old Country longer than the Old Country does.

I'll rework the punchline and test some alternatives out on you, if that's ok?

Fire away, Malc. Is there an American folk song that might work?

How about changing the caption, Malc:

"We just sing "Ging-Gang-Goolie" at the Scout Fair, Mr Johnson - we don't show them to the ladies!"

Or:

"Hey! Guess what. We're in one of those obscure McGookin cartoons."
