It's ok, it was someone collecting for the banks. The poor things, apparently if they don't get money soon they'll have to close more branches. It's such a tragedy.

Anyway, women in Beau Peep: Here are my - hang on, the door again.

The guy had to come back for his pen.

Right, my thoughts:
I used to have two real women in my pirate strip, called Beryl and Pauline and they were based on two real friends of my wife  (yes, those were their names). They were follow-the-fleet sorts who always had a hankering for sailors without being outright. er....you know...pros.

The only other "regular" woman was Blacknose's legendary ugly wife, who was never seen, but whose picture some hapless sailor would accidentally stumble across and faint.
She was the main reason Blacknose was at sea a lot.

I think there are two decent "possibles" for a female character. One is a woman "stowaway", i.e. a woman masquerading as a legionnaire to be closer to Beau. much to his surprise and confusion.
She could be an internet chat room acquaintance who got too serious.

Another female could be a nurse who is physically attractive but who (as we become swiftly aware) is a lesbian. This last fact might never be announced at all, but it can constantly be alluded to.

Maybe both can be introduced, end end up falling for each other...?

OK here are my thoughts:

Hang on there's someone at the door.

Hope it's someone with some funny thoughts.
I apologise, in advance.

I think the nurse/doctor thing has possibilities. The problem for me is trying to find a female character who can appear on a semi-regular basis and who has a bit of depth----rather than just a passive element. We shall see...

How about an FBI agent, or hypnotist, or spy, or ninja, or pianist, or poet, or private detective, or psychiatrist, or rat catcher, or torturer, or translator, or vet, or undertaker.

How about a woman disguised as a man?

No. This woman disguised as a man will in fact be a man, but also half budgie.

How about a lady that runs a Sweets Shop?

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad
