What's the best Centre Pairing?
« on: September 22, 2008, 07:44:05 PM »
Is Craig Levein going with the right central-defensive pairing in combining Darren Dods with Lee Wilkie? I know there are those that would rather see Garry Kenneth in the starting line-up, and I suppose Levein will never please all the fans all of the time. Any thoughts?

Excellent question. While both Wilkie and Dods are solid defenders, it could be argued that they lack the pace necessary for the modern game. Kenneth, a younger man and short on experience is, however, comparatively quick. It's an enigma, mate, an enigma.

Wouldn't putting Kenneth in from the start be advantageous by the fact that he'd make up for the older pair of legs alongside, whoever it was? Having the other geriatric on the bench would useful back-up for a shorter period late in the game. I'm not Mr Craig William Levein obviously, but I think my idea would hold water.

You make a good point---the blend of youth and experience makes sense. However, this leaves a decision to be made regarding Wilkie and Dods. Do we go for the rugged, consistent style of Wilkie or the bookish good looks of Dods?

"Bookish good looks"? Not sure I'd want to look like a book myself.

You mean which of the older guys starts?

I'd quite like to hear a woman's perspective on this. Where's Mince when you need him?

Tarquin's quite up on the sport, and I know he played a bit in the past. Does he agree with a combination of young and old? Would he object to having a young guy playing alongside him?

What a shame - I thought we were going to have an autumnal discussion about curtains.

Well I'm sure it's curtains for Craig if results don't improve overall, Diane. That's the nature of the game.

What are you lot up to, you rascals?

Incidentally if inferring that Mince is a woman is supposed to be an insult, I take offence. My mother's a woman as are two of my sisters. They are as rough and tough as any of you (that's not saying much, true) and as a man who coached women this year I'd advise you to watch your step, that's all, just watch.

Peepmaster, you know that none of my women want to give you their perspective. Do they have to get a restraining order?

I think that you are on a loser with Craig William Levein. Which ever side he puts out will be the wrong side.
We had him and the only thing certain is that you will be at the bottom of the table.
