This is going to be great for my ego when every entry turns out to be funnier than the original.

Abdul: How much will you give me for this book of invisible naked ladies?

Beau: How do you know they're invisible?

Abdul: Because you can't see them you 4-eyed muppet.

Abdul: You're thinking of offering me a tenner, aren't you?

Excellent, Peepmaster. I nearly choked on my coffee.

I just love Abdul's optimism in the fourth bubble after his insult in the third.

Abdul: First edition of Shakespeare's Hamlet, five quid.

Peep: Five quid for a Shakespeare first edition?

Abdul: That's not all...

Abdul: For another fiver I'll get it signed.

Abdul 1: "All You Ever Wanted To Know About Mince" - A Fiver

Beau: That's Dennis's book, you nicked it.

Abdul 2: He already had more books than he could read.

Abdul 3: One.

Abdul 1: "Playboy Bikini Issue", only copy within a thousand miles, a fiver.

Beau: Bikini? Aren't they supposed to be naked?

Abdul 2: Here, we paint bikinis on. Pages 3 to 12 were so explicit I stuck them together.

Abdul 3:...if you know what I mean.

On that last one, I know Abdul's middle panel balloon is too small for all that dialogue, but it works in principle.

Beau: Can I get it out for one night only?

Abdul: I'm not one to advise on personal matters.

Abdul: So much depends on your self-control...

Beau Peep Book 12. Yours for a tenner.

I must admit I'm tempted.

For an extra fiver I can get it signed ...

By Shuggie and Duggie.

Number of balloons - correct.
Humour - questionable.
Incestuous element - marginally admirable.

If they do, I'm sure they won't mind. Our connection with the guys goes back over 20 years when Andrew and I came up with the strip. It was originally called "The Border" and featured the two main characters, Shuggie and Duggie. For several reasons, Andrew and I decided not to go ahead with it and passed the idea on to the guys who took it in a different direction. (For example, we had set it in the sheep-stealing 18th century-----they moved it to the present time while, with more than a touch of the surreal, retained the 18th century clothing and housing.) I DO have a tiny problem with some of the material. They have a tendency to, rather than come up with fresh ideas, simply illustrate old, established jokes. (Shuggie and Duggie sitting on a plane. "Those people down there look like ants". "They are ants---we  haven't taken off yet".) But that's a personal bugbear of mine and certainly doesn't mean I'm right. Shuggie and Duggie is popular and has been running a long time. That, in itself, is a great achievement in a very competitive market.

My god! You had fingers in Shuggie and Duggie too! Is there no strip where you haven't had at least an influence? I am in awe of you both.

I LOVED Angus Og! It was so beautifully drawn with a wonderfully gentle sense of humour. I met the great Ewen Bain once and we had a lot in common----both highlanders and both born on the 23rd of June.

            2/ "How do I know it's genuine?"

The winner is Peepmaster, simply for his "four-eyed muppet", which made me laugh out loud. There were other good entries as well.

Peepmaster, here is your original Mince artwork. It's self-referential, with the nomad holding up a sign. I hope you like it. It's on its way to you now.

Passed over again? What kind of imbecile is deciding these things? Mine was easily the best. I'm never going to enter one of these stupid competitions again as long as I live, you bloody useless incompetents.

I don't care, anyway. I've got better things to do with my life. Over it.

Honest Abdul:  "You four-eyed Muppet!"

Diane, I see you used the phrase 'four-eyed moppet ' rather than the customary four-eyed muppet that we have all grown to love. Is this a trans-Atlantic thing, like you people in the Americas call your mums 'Mom'?

Peepsie - isn't it a bit greedy trying to win the prize twice?

Maybe Diane hasn't got a letter "U" on her keyboard. They call rubbish "Trash". Trash hasn't got a "U" in it. "Rubbish" has!

A moppet is a term of affection whereas a muppet is a trademarked puppet ? I thought the rest of you must have got mixed up. Moppet is way funnier.  ;D
