Roger, I think you've said before that you're a dab hand at making soup. I've been invited to a dinner party the weekend after next and have been asked to bring a starter. Normally I go armed with booze but they want me to be a bit more creative this time. Have you got any easy recipies for soup? Please, nothing that Egon would do though....

Lentils, chicken stock, vegetable stock. Maybe garlic and some herbs.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

ONE chicken carcase simmered for a couple of hours, and strained.

ONE saucepan of water.

347,479 split lentils cooked for an hour or so.

ONE Knorr veg stock tub.

One bay leaf.

6,572 grains of pepper

141 grains of salt.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

ELEPHANT SOUP
Ingredients
•   1 elephant
•   Salt and pepper
•   2 rabbits (optional)
Directions:
•   Cut elephant into bite-size pieces. This should take about 2 months.
•   Add enough brown gravy to cover.
•   Cook over kerosene fire for 4 weeks at 465 degrees.
•   This will serve 3, 800 people. If more are expected, 2 rabbits may be added, but do this only if necessary as most people do not like to find a hare in their soup.

I think I've given out this recipe before but it's simple and delicious.
Watercress soup...
Heat a little olive oil in a pan and add a medium, chopped onion. Then add a large potato, peeled and chopped. Stir around then bung in a bag of washed, supermarket watercress. Finally add a litre of chicken stock and simmer for about an hour. Season and blitz with a hand-held wotsit or in a blender. There you go.

Is that home-made chicken stock or a couple of cubes?

I provided a recipe for delicious soup a while back, but can't be bothered finding it.

Stone Soup.

Take a large stone, wash it, then place it in a pot.  Add water, until it is covered.  Bring to the boil, simmer for 10 minutes, then calm down.  Add herbs, seasoning, stock cubes, chicken, etc to taste.  Remove stone for reuse and serve.

I could give you an idea, but you'd have to check that they had their own mugs and a kettle.

Mugs and a Kettle... there's a joke hiding in there somewhere about the users of this forum, but I lack the comic skill to refine it.

Thanks, Roger. I'll  get some watercress tomorrow and give your recipe a try.
