Snow, Thunder and Lightning Combination.
« on: November 29, 2010, 06:40:58 PM »
On Saturday, the heavy overnight snow in Dundee was accompanied by thunder and lightning. The thunderclaps even woke me up! Have never experienced that combination before. Apparently it's a rare phenomenon caused by freezing cold air moving over warmer water...

All in all it was quite an interesting weekend for Lucy and myself. We were entertained by kindly old Roger and Mary on Saturday evening, witnessed unusual weather phenomenon later that night, and spent most of Sunday parked in snow drifts on the M90.

AND you took five hours to drive the 24 miles from Dundee to Perth on Sunday! Must have been awful. Still, we had a fine evening on Saturday and it was a pleasure to meet Lucy who is, obviously, far too good for you. As we're still pretty much snowed in here, I may have to open that bottle of gin you kindly brought. But next time, bring some tonic, eh?

You told me the weather was far too awful for you to even consider venturing from the house and making a difficult, not to say dangerous, trek to the shops, just for tonic-water, so you'd sent Mary. Is she STILL not back?

I was looking at the map. I think we'd travelled a slightly further than Perth, but to the south, as we couldn't use any exit slip-roads. Eventually got off and made it to Stirling via Dollar.

I'm okay. I've just had a gin and marmalade.

Ah, being stuck in a blizzard in Scotland - that brings back memories!  8)

I heard about the storm on Saturday night from a friend who lives in Invergordon, or somewhere near there, anyway. My sister, who lives in Balerno in the Pentlands, had missed most of it until Saturday night (very unusual, as they normally get it before anyone else).  She was worried she wouldn't get her Christmas shopping done, as they'd said it was going to continue snowing for the next 2 weeks.  Happy, though, that she retired this year and doesn't have to stress about driving across Edinburgh to work.

I'm okay. I've just had a gin and marmalade.

Yes, but how's Mary? She obviously didn't get/isn't back with the tonic, if you've resorted to marmalade with your gin. I jolly well hope you're not sitting there snug as a bug while she's out in the wilds of snowy Dundee hunting down your tonic! You're going on report, if so, Mr Kettle!

Can you tell I'm in a grumpy mood this morning? Need my second cup of coffee.

Good news for your sister, Joan. Christmas isn't for another three and a half weeks yet this year.  ..0

Many thanks Roger for the lovely dinner.  It's been a pleasure meeting the famous Mr. Kettle.  ;D

Visiting Dundee turned out to be an adventure.

I must say I'm so proud of Peeps driving . ;D

Yes, smarty pants, but she wanted to get the shopping out of the way this week.   ..0

PS, I'm still grumpy. Ordered a watch online for my Christmas yesterday and they reduced the price by another 10% today. Too late to cancel.  Grrrr! >:(

I'm such a Scot!

That's why she wanted a watch.
