I'm legal and I have needs...
« on: March 17, 2012, 10:16:52 AM »
First, hello...that's the pleasantries dealt with.  I have a "vague" question which can probably only be answered by someone who has...to put it delicately...possibly too much interest in Beau Peep, you know the unhealthy kind of interest...Beau Peep pyjamas, a pillowcase with a life size head of the Nomad...

Anyway, more years ago than lots, I was sitting in my favourite barbers [sadly I don't have or need one now], and whilst awaiting my turn was browsing an old Beau Peep book which had two or three strips regarding an accountant, or about accountancy which I found particularly funny, given I was one at the time [an accountant I mean].

So before I leap over to E-B*y and part with any money-laundered loot, does anyone  possibly recall the particular book it might have been?

As a clue there was a lot of desert in it, some legionnaires, the odd camel...

Anyone can say they are legal...show us the Beau Peep Cameldung secret handshake.
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Rob will know the answer, but I'm not sure about the pyjamas, etc.

Welcome, Redundant!
I have absolutely no idea where the strps you mention might be found. As Bill said, your best bet lies with Rob Baker who tends to know about these things. Hopefully, he'll pop in soon.

Thanks for replies, and hopefully a solution in due course.   As for legality and secret handshakes [a euphemism if ever I heard one]...there, satisfied?   I know, a cam thingamajig would have proved useful at that point but it's in the repair shop being demisted after last weeks broadcast of my periodic "wobbly and wrinkly can still be sexy" podcast.

We all love using odd brackets {even curly ones} and love odd [and nonsensical] punctuation. I find your posts <and the parentheses contained within> inspiriting and *in an odd way* totally groovy.

Does "inspiriting" exist?

Thanks Roger...I think.   Sadly I may already have peaked and started the slow spiral into innuendo, another great word to type by the way, I like words that make you pause part way to consider the spelling.  I digress, so feel free to ban me should it get to the "ooh er missus" level.

Thanks also Mince, your post caught me mid flow [it's starting] replying to Rogers' post [or is that Rogers, definitely not Roger's].   Thank you very much for your comments, I blushed but put that down to high blood pressure brought on by watching my wifes' family consuming my wine at a depressingly rapid pace.

Does "inspiriting" exist?

From The King’s English by H.W. Fowler:

The reader's experience has probably been that the constant fresh starts are at first inspiriting, that about half-way he has had quite enough of the novelty, and that he is intensely grateful, when the solitary semicolon comes into sight, for a momentary lapse into ordinary gentle progress.

Hello Redundant, and welcome to the home of a bunch of loonies devoted to Beau Peep.

Your query is doing my head in as I can vaguely remember a strip where accountants are mentioned, but I can't find it at the moment. I'll keep trying though.  But I'd suggest you invest in all the Beau Peep books you can get your hands in -- the older ones are getting very rare now -- and they're all brilliant.

Have a little look on the 'Just a Fort' thread where you find out about the brand new book -- the first for 14 years. I can't comment on it as I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered from America.   It's on Amazon.com (not .co.uk) -- http://www.amazon.com/The-Return-BEAU-PEEP-Volume/dp/1463693281/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332024749&sr=8-1

As Mr Kettle said, you're going to fit in well here....

Hi Rob, and thanks for the reply, sorry about your head but, and to be a tad brutal, it's a pain of mine shared, which works for me!   I'll be following your advice on the books, including the new one, which is totally cool after 14 years, and I hope I do get to fit in here, and so do all my Doctors. <grin>

Dont forget about the 'other' forum which has the books for viewing.  That is no excuse for not buying them though.
