The virtual gift-giving scheme of 2012
« on: December 09, 2012, 09:47:50 PM »
Seeing that so many of us LOVE to get pressies at xmas I thought it would be nice if we pulled names and then come Christmas Eve (or the week before, depending how much of a life one has) we post photos of the thing(s) we would have liked to have bought for the person that was randomly picked for us.

Price is no object seeing this is virtual. For example if I had drawn Diamond Lil – I would have bought her a small pond (got a crew in to dig it) and a pair of beautiful swans – just because that is what I think she would like – so I would have googled a photo of swans on a pond and posted it on this thread for xmas (fairly simple eh – so don’t bugger it up).

I have taken the names from the list of members that have over 100 posts and they are listed below in that order – if you are gracing the forums with a rare visit over the hols and feel hurt and left out then I urge you to make more of an effort on your post count next year.

I cut up strips of paper from the member list and had my daughter draw the names so as to be fair.

If you are a bit concerned that the person who is supposed to get your name does not frequent the boards very often – I suggest that you send them a PM telling them of this virtual gift-giving scheme or frankly you won’t have a very merry Christmas.

I could be completely wrong about this, but I always kind of assumed that Calypso and Feather were both the same person, being USA-based women. When Calypso stopped posting and Feather started soon after, I assumed it was just a forum name change, not a different account.

Anyway, this is my way of saying I didn't get anybody anything. Given that the "Calypso" account hasn't been active since 2008, I don't think she'll mind.

I always thought Calypso, Feather, peter and anyone else who was nice to Mince were people that he had made up. But if we let things like being imaginary characters get in way, that’s going to seriously scuttle this scheme.

I feel a little less guilty about the competition now.

Can I suggest an alternative gift-giving scheme, wherein you all chip in and raise enough money to buy me a yacht?

Much more fulfilling than finding google images, I'm sure you'll agree.

Ideally Christmas Eve - but if you have turkeys to stuff or people to see then do it a few days early to get on with your real life preparations.

Sorry, I missed this yesterday. I suggest we meet you halfway...I would be willing to chip into the cost of a one hour's rental of a paddle boat - who else is game?

Do we pay for the oars too?

There were some faults with this scheme such as people with high post counts that have not been here for years. And now poor Egg who has been trying to get his post count up is left out. I am so ashamed of myself.  :(

Here is an addition to the names list – these are people with over 50 posts who have made a post sometime in 2012. I apologise to you all.

Calvin gets Bog
Elizabeth gets Calvin
Egg gets Elizabeth
Bog gets Egg

Egg can take my place, Diane.

Oh, yes, I am a real person and I did change my account from Calypso to Feather, Jack.  I didn't really post here much and wanted to end the Calypso account. When I did decide to return for a bit, I went with "Feather," since that was my name on ButNot.  Malc and Bill, had I gotten your names, I would have given you my avatar as my gift.  :)
