To expand on this, I've always been into sport. As a kid, I kicked a ball around from dawn till dusk. I was an ever-present, classy number ten in my school team which won the North of Scotland league and cup double in 1969. (This was Inverness Royal Academy. After victorious matches, we'd sing "We are the I.R.A."--- at the time, that acronym was less controversial). After that, I played amateur football---and, briefly, semi-professional football---until my mid-twenties when torn ligaments in both ankles ended a career that was destined for Real Madrid. I still play golf to a reasonable standard and have notched up three holes-in-one over the years and broken 70 on a few occasions. I've also won tournaments at table tennis, darts, pool and snooker. Note how I've drifted indoors to sports that can be played within a couple of feet from a beer. I also love watching sport---live. I've seen Scotland beat England at Wembley, Jack Nicklaus win The Open at St. Andrews and England beat the West Indies in Leeds. (Mince, I should explain that this involves three separate sports---football, golf and cricket). I've also seen Dundee United beat Barcelona in a European tie at Tannadice Park. (It happened---look it up!)
I've just re-read all this and it sounds so boastful----excellent! Seriously, sport has always been the escape from my working life, participating or watching, and long may that continue.
By the way, I'm also a demon at cribbage....
