I feel for you, Roger - is it still happening?  Sounds to me like your computer didn't shut down properly one time.  Best advice I can give is same as others - make sure you've got all your documents and emails backed up (copied to CD, DVD, external drive, or somewhere other than your computer).

I suppose I could copy everything out by hand.

Don't you have a backup drive or a printer?

If you don't have too many large files, you may get away with just having a good sized dongle.
I apologise, in advance.

Make sure you keep the dongle in its protective sheath.

Maybe a screen capture, either uploaded, or emailed digitally as a pdf or jpeg file attachment would visually help show the problem, Roger.

Roger, why don't you upgrade your hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS?

That won't help access the antil strope though, Mince. A fanta-byte setting could be all that's adrift. Unplugging the DTK cord, waiting 23 seconds, then re-inserting, (with a finger on the alt key) would be enough then.

Ask Roger if he's brush-scanned the drive corners with updated slingback software.

Roger, please feel free to use my rather rude expression of a few days ago!

I tried all of that, and now I've got the same problem as Roger.  >:(
