Sorry, I need to take this thread back again momentarily (I shan't keep you long). Malc, I've seen that goal hundreds of times and marvelled at it with each one. Of course, it's more about the route to goal than the final kick, but I scoffed when I read the above, and instantly wrote it off as McGookin-goes-controversial bluff and bluster.
I've watched it another couple of dozen times since then, from all the available angles, and **** me,
you're right! It was Fenwick's desperate lunge that connected with the ball a split second before Maradonna followed through with his own leg. I'm absolutely staggered and stunned by this, and in an odd sort of way, I probably feel more cheated than Peter Shilton did after Diego's first goal.
